map comparison

In the video, the cartographers described how the Mercator has many distortions in each of countries and continents. for example, Africa and Greenland were both the same size even though Africa is 14 times bigger than Greenland. Europe was drawn bigger than south America even though it is 3.8 million square miles to south America's 6.9 million square miles. peters projection shows much less distortion because it has the right sizes and locations for the different countries. this is valid because the Europeans enlarged areas at the poles to make straight lines of geographic direction which makes it easier to travel across an ocean.
