classical art- harmony, order, balance, and proportion
tragedy- a serious drama about common themes like love, hate, war, and betrayal
comedy- contains scenes filled with slapstick situations and crude humor
peloponnesian war- a war fought between the two cities of sparta and athens
philosophers- they were determined to seek the truth no matter where it led them
socrates- believed that absolute standards did exsist for truth and justice
plato- a student of socrates who wrote down his conversations as a meaning of philosophical investigation
aristotle- philosopher who questioned the nature of the world and of human beliefs, thought and knowledge
3. they increased the number of public officials who were paid salaries and the poorest citizens were able to serve if elected or chosen by lot
4. the spartans had a strong land army and they started burning down all of the athenian food supplies across the country. the athens had a strong navy and because their food suplies was decreasing rapidly, they moved everyone inside the city walls. so the city and people were safe from hunger as long as their ships could deliver them food.
5. because he was making them question their beliefs and the way they view the world and some thought that was disrespectful to the greek gods and that he was corrupting the youth of athens.
